The Linden Tree (Tilia sp.) has a long history in our local forests. Its name means as much as "lovely, smooth, gentle tree?.
It is the deciduous tree most sung about and written about in poems.

Its wood is yellowish-white in colour. It has a silk-like lustre, yet is soft and light, although also solid and tough.

Linden wood is probably the most important wood for use in sculpture and carving.
